According to Craig Tiley, the Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Australia, American tennis players are the “commercial engine” of the WTA, and 2023 US Open winner Coco Gauff is the driving force behind the rise of tennis in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Australia discussed the current dominance of American tennis players in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) during a conversation that took place in Vancouver during the 2023 Laver Cup.
After that, Tiley continued by stating that it would be beneficial for the WTA to strengthen their partnership with the ATP.
In addition to this, he was certain that there should be equal opportunities for both men and women to participate in the sport.
One such example of deeper cooperation between the two groups is the season-opening United Cup, which will start off the 2024 campaign. This event will take place in 2024.
“I believe that the ATP and the WTA being able to collaborate on more projects is beneficial to the WTA. It is a significant advantage that our sport offers. You should know that the majority of Grand Slam tournaments have, for the past four decades, paid out the same amount of prize money in each event. According to Tiley, “one of the many wonderful advantages of our sport is that men and women have equal chance.”
The United States team will begin its defense of the United Cup in Perth late in the month of December. Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek were both chosen to compete in the group round of the mixed team tournament on Monday. Gauff has decided to begin her season in Auckland rather than with the rest of the United States squad, therefore Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz will lead the American team.
The eighteen teams have been divided into six groups, of which three will compete in Sydney and three will compete in Perth, which is located on the west coast of Australia. The preliminary round will begin on December 29 in both cities.
Group E includes Djokovic’s six-player Serbian team, as well as China and the Czech Republic.
