Microsoft had planned to end the benefit of free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions for non-Microsoft Gaming employees in January 2024.
The decision prompted pushback from some Microsoft employees.
Microsoft has decided to scrap the plan for now and will continue providing free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions to all employees throughout 2024.
The decision to revert the plan was communicated in a leaked memo from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer.
Spencer apologized for the confusion and thanked the staff for their support.
Spencer was not aware of the plan to end the employee benefit and personally looked into the matter.
The memo suggests that Microsoft may still revisit the plan to take away free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions from employees in the future.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is Microsoft's flagship game subscription service that offers over 100 game titles for a single purchase.
