The Swappable Batteries Motorcycle Consortium (SBMC) was formed in 2021 by Honda, KTM, Piaggio Group, and Yamaha to create standards for battery swapping on electric motorbikes.
In 2022, the SBMC added new members and developed prototypes for swappable batteries.
A second phase of prototyping is planned for 2024 for field trial testing.
The SBMC has been participating in discussions with standardization bodies regarding swappable battery development for motorcycles.
As of November 2023, the SBMC has 32 member companies.
The SBMC plans to attend EICMA 2023 and hold meetings in Tokyo and Turin.
The SBMC is focused on topics such as cybersecurity and data protection.
The SBMC aims to meet with those interested in learning more about the organization and its goals.
The SBMC is actively working on the development and implementation of swappable batteries for motorcycles.
